The Stavanger harbour area is called Vågen by the locals. The iconic sea houses in different colours are perfect for photo stops as well as going out for dinner or drinks. In the daytime, the port is bustling with life on busy days.
The port area in Stavanger is often only called Vågen by those who live in Stavanger. Vågen is mainly the area at Strandkaien and Skagenkaien. The harbour area is usually filled with bustling life and people both during the day and in the evening. During the day, there are restaurants, pubs and shops that characterise the harbour, as well as boat traffic from both leisure boats and providers who offer activities to visitors. This is also home to among other things, Fisketorget/ the Fish market, which offers both a restaurant and a fish and seafood outlet. There are nice areas with benches where you can sit and just watch life. If it is a busy day with lots of guests, you will see RIB boats, sightseeing boats and guided walks along and by Vågen all day. In the evening, it is popular to be in Vågen on restaurant visits as well as for partying and fun. The former sea houses are today popular night spots or restaurants. Here you can eat delicious food, take a breather and drinks with some live music, or you can use the harbour for your evening walk by following the blue lights along the ground. The walk is aptly called the Blå Promenade/ Blue Promenade. In Vågen, there are also a couple of hotels for those who want to stay in the middle of the city. Several beautiful buildings are also located in Vågen for those who are interested in architecture. You will also find the tourist office in Stavanger here which helps with almost whatever you need.
