Bike trip Arendal - Eydehavn - Buøya

A bike trip to Buøya offers a mix of industrial history, coastal scenery, and authentic Southern Norway charm.
The route follows the coastline east from Arendal’s city centre, through lush surroundings and quiet residential areas, ending on beautiful Buøya – a small island with smooth rock formations, bathing spots, and views of the open sea.
The tour starts in Arendal city centre, along Langbrygga and Tollbodkaia to Barbu. From there, follow the pedestrian and cycle path along Route 410, passing Krøgenes, Dyvika, and Stokken Church. The terrain is even and easy all the way, with a continuous cycle path almost to Eydehavn. Along the way, you’ll pass glimpses of water, forest, and small coastal communities.
In Eydehavn, take a break and explore one of Arendal’s most historic areas – a former industrial community dating back to the early 1900s. Stop by the Eydehavn Museum, which tells the fascinating story of how industry shaped both the landscape and the people who lived here.
Continue towards Buøya, about 3 km from Eydehavn’s centre. The route follows sidewalks and bike lanes to a narrow bridge crossing over to the island. Once you cross, the landscape opens up to smooth rocks, swimming areas, and sea views. It’s the perfect place to take a dip, enjoy your packed lunch, or simply relax and breathe in the fresh sea air.
The route from Arendal to Buøya is about 13 km one way, making it ideal for a relaxed day trip – whether on a regular bike or e-bike. The terrain is gentle, with plenty of opportunities to stop, explore, and enjoy the coastal atmosphere along the way.
