Bike trip on Hisøy

Hisøy offers a beautiful and varied cycling route just outside Arendal's city centre – with sea views, quiet roads, and small detours to beaches and idyllic recreation areas.
The Hisøy Loop starts in the centre of Arendal and follows the waterfront west past Kittelsbukt and Svinodden. From there, the route continues up Strømsbuneset and along the pedestrian and cycle path on Route 420 towards Fevik. At the roundabout in the middle of the island, turn left towards Hisøy Church.
From here, you can choose between several scenic detours:
- Towards Tangen, a family-friendly bathing area with a sandy beach, playground, and picnic tables (approx. 3.5 km extra).
- Or towards Stølsvika, a popular coastal area with two beaches, a small kiosk, and smooth rock formations – perfect for a swim or a break with a view (approx. 2.5 km extra).
From the church, the main route continues to Kolbjørnsvik, the charming heart of the island with a small marina, cafés, and ferry connection back to Arendal. Along the way, you’ll pass through lush residential areas and peaceful forest paths, with the option of a short detour through Sandvika, known for its beautiful houses and sea views.
If you prefer to cycle back to the city without taking the ferry, you can follow the road from Kolbjørnsvik via Strømmen – an easy and pleasant stretch leading you back to Arendal (approx. 4.5 km extra).
This is a perfect ride for families, couples, and recreational cyclists alike – easy to access, varied, and full of small discoveries along the way.
