Well lit trail at Birkenlund in Arendal

The 4.4 km trail is a popular destination for both young and old, perfect for a relaxed walk or an active ski trip.

Along the route from Birkenlund School you’ll find Heitjenn, a group of small forest ponds with a sledding hill, grill cabin, and picnic area – a lovely stop for a break, summer or winter. On Sundays, many visitors stop by Bjørneboe Cabin, where you can warm up with coffee, freshly made waffles, and a welcoming atmosphere after your walk.

If you wish to explore further, there are many paths leading deeper into the forest, including Østkantløypa, which is marked all the way to Granestua. When conditions allow, ski tracks are prepared between Birkenlund, Bjørneboe, and Granestua – a great option for a longer outing.

The Birkenlund trail is easily accessible from several locations – including Birkenlund School, Engehaven, the Nordbødalen community house, and Engefjell – all with good parking facilities.
