RT: Prima Facie
The relevance, simplicity, storytelling – this felt like contemporary theater at its best.
Rumors about the play Prima Facie crossed borders after it was written in 2019. A powerful and topical play about a female lawyer who goes from defender to victim in a rape case. The relevance, simplicity, storytelling – this felt like contemporary theater at its best.
In Prima Facie, Suzie Miller lets the protagonist confront this theme both theoretically, morally, and physically. What is it like to see a case from the outside and to be in the middle of it? And is the legal system really only made for men?
1 in 5 women in Norway have experienced some form of sexual abuse as children or young adults. 9% of all Norwegian women have experienced rape at least once in their lives. We still do not have a consent law in Norway. It is not enough to say no.
Prima Facie takes the bull by the horns and lets us experience the complexity and ambivalence of such an experience. At the same time, it uses the cold and pragmatic legal system as a counterweight to the physical and emotional. The combination becomes a heart-wrenching piece of theater where the protagonist is challenged on all fronts.
A theater experience that is guaranteed to touch its audience.
Heartbreaking, harrowing, brutal, thought-provoking, shocking, and provocative.
One woman. A drum set. One evening. One incident.
In all its simplicity.
