Liv Bjørnhaug Johansen is a nurse, cultural historian, and senior advisor on women's health at the Norwegian Women's Public Health Association. She debuted as an author in 2021 with The Long Shift, about the healthcare system during the pandemic. In 2023, she published Diagnosis: Woman, where she highlights gender differences in healthcare through women's stories and research.
Physiological differences between genders mean that women and men get sick in different ways and respond differently to treatment. Nevertheless, healthcare services are based on research conducted on men. The lecture describes the background for this, the consequences it has for women's lives and health, and what is needed to ensure women receive equitable healthcare services.
The lecture will also address how this affects women's lives and health in the short and long term. To ensure women receive equitable healthcare services, there must be a systematic change in how research is conducted, with increased focus on women's physiology and health needs.
