Norwegian Museum of Horticulture
The Norwegian Museum of Horticulture enjoys a beautiful setting in the Dømmesmoen park, and is the only museum of its kind in Norway.
The museum offers three fascinating exhibitions on important aspects of Grimstad's horticultural and natural history.
In 2023, the Norwegian Horticultural Museum celebrates 100 years since the Gardening School opened, and on that occasion a completely new exhibition will be opened. In the new exhibition, you can get an all-round insight into student culture, the school's teaching and ripple effects for the industry locally. In the wine exhibition «A rhubarb and redcurrant adventure», the production of Fuhr's renowned wines can be explored. The third exhibition, «In jar, can and bottle», is a wonderful retrospective glance at Grimstad's vast food preservation industry.
The museum has a café serving the very best waffles in town, and its shop offers a large selection of books as well as essential items for gardening enthusiasts and other visitors. A gardening library is also available and open to the public.
The Welcome Centre for Raet National Park is also located at the Norwegian Museum of Horticulture. Here you will find information about why the Raet National Park has been named after a geological phenomenon and not after a geographical name.
