The Ibsen-museum in Grimstad

One of Grimstad's main attractions!
In 1843, a 15-year-old Henrik Ibsen came to Grimstad to work as an apprentice for apothecary Reimann. During the six intense years he lived in the town, he became an apothecary’s assistant, a social critic and an author. With a newly published “Catilina” under his belt, he left town in 1850 determined to work with theatre.
At the museum, you can experience the original pharmacy where the young pharmacist apprentice Henrik Ibsen worked, as well as the room in which he lived and wrote his first play. The museum's new exhibition tells the stories of the rebel, infatuations, friendship, the "illegitimate" child and how the young Henrik became one of the world's foremost dramatists.
Open every day from June 22 to August 10, 11 AM – 4 PM.
Also open on Sundays August 17, 24, and 31, 11 AM – 4 PM.
