Kilden

Few poets resonate more deeply in our region than Gabriel Scott. And few works have had a greater impact on both his authorship and legacy than The Spring or The Letter about the Fisherman Markus. The short novel about humanity's encounter with nature – and the spiritual potential it holds – has become one of the most beloved stories in Norwegian literary history. In our time, marked by climate change, it remains as relevant as ever.

The fact that Kilden Theatre and Concert Hall takes its name from this cherished work makes it especially meaningful to bring the story back to the stage. In the spring of 2026, it will be performed in a dramatization by Henrik Rafaelsen, who also appears on stage together with Lars Emil Nielsen and Mina Try. After the premiere in Kristiansand, the production will go on tour throughout Agder – just as the fisherman Markus, and perhaps the author himself, would have liked.

We hope to create a warm and intimate performance that allows the audience to experience the text in all its simplicity.
