Bergstølsaga

Bergstølsaga is a water-powered sawmill from 1870 and an important cultural heritage site.
Bergstølsaga in Vigmostad, Lindesnes municipality, is an old water-powered sawmill dating back to around 1870, situated idyllically by the Bergstølfossen waterfall. The sawmill was mainly used to cut staves for herring barrels, an important livelihood in the inland villages of Southern Norway until the 1970s. In addition, the sawmill was used to produce building materials such as railway sleepers and house timber. Bergstølsaga is a significant cultural heritage site that was restored in 2001 after being damaged by a flood. It represents an important part of local history and economy alongside traditional farming.
