Vigeland hus (Vigeland House)
The childhood home of the artists Gustav and Emanuel Vigeland in Mandal.
Gustav Vigeland is probably the most famous of the brothers, having produced the sculptures for the Vigeland Sculpture Park, one of Oslo's most visited tourist attractions.
Their childhood home is typical of craftsmen’s houses in “old Mandal”, and a guided tour will give you a unique insight into the childhood and artistic development of the brothers.
Vigeland was born in Mandal and lived there until he was about 15 years of age. The childhood home is located at Støkkan, a part of the old tree houses constructions in Mandal center. The house is preserved and an exemple of a typical townhouse in Mandal from the 1890's.
The main construction, the carpentry workshop and the stables are part of the visitor center.
As a visitor, you can find a unique insight of the artists' adolescence and life through a guided tour and documentary.
Workshop for kids on summer season.
