American Emigration Museum in Kvinesdal

Welcome to The American Emigrant Museum in Kvinesdal.
The American Emigrant Museum is a short walk from the centre of Kvinesdal. Located about 50 metres from the main traffic lights into the city, you cannot miss it. It is a large grey house/building with a large sign at the front.
This house was given to the Kvinesdal Municipality by Judith Østebø in 1996. She was the daughter of a well known trader in Kvinesdal in the 1930s and 40s. Judith wanted the house to be used by the local Government as a museum based on American emigration.
Then in 2005, at the American Emigration Festival, it officially opened as a museum displaying the history of Norwegians that moved to the Unites States and the close relationship the two countries have.
When you visit the museum, you will see old pictures, paintings, artefacts and read all sorts of stories of people that emigrated to the Unites States. There is an Apartment in the basement with everything American - carpet, furniture, kitchen, bedroom etc.
Do not forget to try the jukebox. It still works!
