Hågåsen cultural trail
Hågåsen in Kirkehamn on Hidra Island outside Flekkefjord has many interesting stories that previously have not been heard by all those who visit this gem each year.
With its strategic location, Hågåsen in Kirkehamn on Hidra Island also has what may be the region's best view and the location is rich in history and old ruins.
At Hågåsen there are the remains of a coastal fort battery from the Second World War, Hitterøy coastal fort battery.
The Germans’ had extensive activities here during the Second World War, and more than one hundred soldiers were stationed here. There was a major battle here during the Napoleonic wars and a semaphore telegraph has been placed on the top of Hågåsen. In addition, Kirkehamn, which can be seen from the top, is rich in outport, fishing and sailing history. Historically, Hågåsen has also been used for beacon burning.

On Hidra Island, the trail to Hågåsen is very nice and easy. Exit from the road between Ulland and Kirkehamn, on a gravel road up to a hill overlooking Kirkehamn, over the sea, towards Hidreheia and in the direction of Egersund on the mainland.
At Hågåsen on Hidra Island you can stay overnight at Solveig Egeland's art installation “Små hytter” (small cabins). Små hytter is an art project that was established at Hågåsen on Hidra Island in 2013. The installation consists of two cabins, the pink “Nyperosa” (Rosehip Pink) and the blue “Havsula” (Northern Gannet).
