Sandvatn
The cabin is situated in wide open mountain terrain, near the mouth of Sandavatn. The cabin is easily accessible and is often used in summer, autumn and winter. This is one of the snowiest areas in Frafjordheiene but one of the most popular especially during winters with little snow, Sandvatn is a very popular destination.
Sandvatn is an unattended cabin (cooking facilities but no food) with 22 beds and a loft with mattresses. It can be rented from Stavanger Turistforening. It is equipped with tableware and bedding, there is no electricity, but gas, wood stoves and candles.
To get here it is popular to start from Lortabu in Hunnedalen, the hike takes approximately 3 hours. Near Lortabu there are several sports climbing areas, so why not combine this with a trip to Sandvatn? During winter (from the start of February) there is a marked cross country ski trail from Lortabu to Sandvatn. A popular sight nearby is Mohedlar a rock shelter located between Øyarvatnet and Mohedlartjørn.
