Tingvatn fornminnepark

Visit Tingvatn fornminnepark to learn more about the Iron Age and Migration Period in southern Norway.
At Tingvatn Fornminnepark you can learn more about the Iron Age, especially the Migration Period and the ancestors of the Vikings, through the archaeological exhibition "The Immortals." You can also visit the area with stone settings and burial mounds from the Migration Period.
Tingvatn Fornminnepark focuses on historical craftsmanship and organizes demonstrations, courses in various craft techniques, and other events throughout the year. The most popular event is the Bjørnevåk Iron Age Ting in May.
At Tingvatn, you can see a displayed copy of the Snartemo sword and weapons from a Viking grave, on loan from the Cultural History Museum in Oslo. The magnificent sword from Snartemo is the most famous find from the rich Migration Period in Agder and is renowned far beyond Norway’s borders. The discovery of the sword represents the warrior aristocracy that, around the year 500, led regional dominions in many parts of Norway.
At Tingvatn, you will also find a small museum café and shop where you can buy simple food, drinks, and souvenirs.
The archaeological site is open to the public 24 hours a day. See the website for updated opening hours.
Tingvatn Fornminnepark is part of the Vest-Agder Museum.
