Picturesque, idyllic, charming; it is possible to use all the guide books clichés when describing Risør – and get away with it. This coastal town is a heritage preserved wooden town that offers cultural festivals, a large archipelago and a long history of wooden boat building. However for one week late this July Risør will be rocked by M32 World as the World Match Racing Tour arrives in town with its World-class match racers and high-performance M32 catamarans – quite different from the sailing activities which usually occupy the harbour.
Although the first time that the World Match Racing Tour will visit this Norwegian coastal town, the location was tested as a high-performance race track last summer when the M32 Series Scandinavia stopped here for three days. Sailors compared the narrow, channeled race area to WMRT favourite, Sweden’s Marstrand. Judging by the pictures, you can see why.
The people of Risør have a passion for sailing and are eager for more M32 racing and will surely line the dock to watch WMRT skippers do battle.
