It is no surprise that fishing is also a favourite past-time in Vegårshei. With an abundance of lakes, there are fresh fish to be caught everywhere. If you are interested in War history, there is a WW2 wreckage from a British aircraft shot down in the forest which is also a nice hike. If shopping is your thing, there are a couple of stores in the town centre or Kilsloftet has some beautiful jewellery.

Vegårshei has a varied terrain and landscape providing excellent hiking opportunites for both advanced hikers and children. Take a backpack and camera with you and enjoy the surroundings. One of them is called Hovdefjell which is Vegårshei’s highest peak 525 meters above sea level. At the top you can see all six surrounding counties including Arendal which is over 40 kilometres away.
There are lakes everywhere in Vegårshei which are perfect for swimming. Most of these have low water so that children can also safely swim in them. Two of the most popular bathing places are Langøya and Tangen. Langøya has a large beach with toilet facilities, tables and a barbeque area under a roof. Tangen is located next to a small stream with a netted football field, beach, fishing dock and a barbeque area.
There are no hotels in Vegårshei, but there are five places to stay overnight. These options range from cabins and guesthouses to camping and caravan places.
