The hike over the Homfjellet mountain to the village Homme takes you through magnificent scenery with breathtaking views.
The foot of the 950-metre Homfjellet mountain is approx. 10 minutes’ drive from central Valle. The route is 8,5 kilometres, and estimated hiking time is around 4 hours. There are some demanding sections, and the trail grading code is red. You need to bring adequate food and water, and good hiking shoes are required. Follow the signs and the blue markings.
Getting there: From central Valle you take the road RV9 to the north, in the direction of Hovden. 50 metres after passing the road traffic station, there is a gentle turn, from which one road diverts to the right and another one to the left. You may park on the left side of the road.
If you arrive from the north, the parking place is approx. 5 minutes’ drive from Flateland Camping, where the road makes a gentle left turn. Park on the right side of the road.
From the parking, follow the signs and markings to Einang and Homfjellet.
Description: The first couple of kilometres you walk on a fairly broad gravel road. It becomes a path when you enter the forest and the terrain gets steeper. After 1 kilometre there is a path crossing (to Einang and to Homfjellet). Take the path to the left and follow the markings to the summit. From the points where the paths divert, the terrain becomes steeper and more rugged. Take your time and enjoy the hike; there are several nice viewpoints and picnic spots along the way. When you reach the summit, a well-deserved rest is a good idea. Remember to write your name in the guest book!
Going down, you may return the way you came, or you may follow the blue markings towards the Laugardalen valley. The latter option is along the plateau to Laugardalen and down to the small village Homme. From Homme the path follows the local road Einangvegen back to the parking place.
