A detour from road 17 and to the island Sandhornøya and further on to Inndyr. A great choice if you want to experiences nature and culture / history. The highlights are Langsanden a 2 km long sandy beach and Gildeskål Old church.
Langsanden - 2 km sandy beach.
The beach is located on the north part of Sandhornøy island and is well worth the detour. The beach is equipped with toilets and showers. Make sure to bring 10-kronger coins.
Gildeskål Old Church
A medieval church well worth visiting. Here it is guiding (in the summer) and you get a great insight into people's everyday life from a knowledgeable guide. The cemetery, close by, is also interesting with some quirky inscriptions.
Gildeskål Old church is part of Gildeskål Church Place. Nearby is a larger church from 1881. Also a unique farm shop with 4-5 local businesses with everything from fashion clothing to homemade food.
The detour route is approximately 42 km. Along the way, you take the ferry from Horsdal (Sandhornøy) to Sund. This ferry does not run often, so you have to plan carefully. See ferry times at www.177nordland.no
