Overview

Experience Norway's largest collection of Giant's kettles (Jettegryter). At Storhaugen, just 2 kilometers from Setran, you can explore more than 100 "Jettegryter" of different sizes and shapes - formed during the Ice Age over 10,000 years ago.

The trail starts at the Setran Adventure Park (formerly named Galtnessætran). Setran was formerly the pasture below Galtneset at the 17th century. The trail follows the originally marked trade route to Galtneset (2.0 km). This place was at that time an important trading post in the wedding of herring fishing in the Opløfjord (from 1880 to 1950).

Just above Galtneset there is a collection of more than 100 conical depressions (“Giant's kettles”). These were made during the ice-age for about 10 000 years ago and are a valuable geological rarity. There is an infotainment, both next to the conical depressions and Galtneset. The last half of the trail is a circular route.

You can either go up to the conical depressions by Løvikmyra (0.7 km) and then go down to Galtneset via Galtnessvika (0.6 km) or directly to Galtneset (0.6 km). Throughout the entire area, sheep graze here during the summer season. Please pay attention to the decoupling. Thetrail is partially wet and steep.
