Bårdsgarden – Traditional Mountain Farm in the Heart of Trollheimen

Since the late 1800s, Bårdsgarden has warmly welcomed visitors to Storlidalen, an area renowned for its majestic nature and rich mountain landscapes. The farm gained recognition through Berit Brænne’s children's book trilogy from the 1960s about “Tørris – the boy from Storlidalen,” a story inspired by life at Bårdsgarden.

Accommodation

Today, Bårdsgarden operates as a self-service DNT cabin with 20 beds. The cabin is part of the main farmhouse and features a fully equipped kitchen, dining area, cozy living room with fireplace, shower, and toilet. In addition, two separate cabins are available for rent – one for weekend and weekly stays, and one for overnight rental.

Activities

Bårdsgarden is an ideal starting point for year-round outdoor adventures. In summer, marked DNT trails lead into Trollheimen, Innerdalen, and over to Sunndalen, making hut-to-hut hiking possible. The surrounding area also offers summit hikes, shorter walks, stroller-friendly paths, swimming spots, and fishing. Guests can rent a boat and nets, and purchase fishing licenses directly on the farm.

Winter Activities

In winter, Storlidalen and Bårdsgarden become a paradise for ski enthusiasts. The area offers miles of groomed trails, ideal for both long and short ski trips – perfect for experienced skiers and families alike. The valley is also well known for ski touring, with opportunities for randonee and backcountry skiing in spectacular surroundings.

For guests traveling with dogs, Bårdsgarden provides a dedicated dog room, making it easy for pet owners to enjoy their stay with their four-legged companions.
