Gondola in Oppdal

Every year, as spring turns into summer, the chairlifts at the Hovden lift in Oppdal Ski Center are replaced with gondolas. Taking the gondola to the top is a popular activity—from here, you can enjoy a panoramic view over all of Oppdal. On a clear day, you might even catch a glimpse of Snøhetta in the distance.

At the summit, a multitude of adventures await. You can visit the mountaintop restaurant, “The Hill,” which boasts the town's best views. Here, you can savor delicious Italian pizzas baked in a wood-fired stone oven. The restaurant also offers a variety of lunch dishes, including soups, salads, and sandwiches. “The Hill” serves a range of beverages, and if you're in the mood for something light, you can enjoy a good cup of coffee with a sweet treat on the side.

For the more adventurous, you can explore the trails behind the mountain and hike down through Ådalen. Along the way, you'll encounter many exciting sights such as grazing sheep and cows, closed ski lifts, rivers, and streams. If you're lucky, you might even spot a herd of reindeer. For a more challenging hike, why not trek all the way to Blåøret?

The gondola and Hovden mountain are also a popular destination for mountain biking. Cyclists love taking the lift to the top and then riding down the marked trails along the mountainside, often repeating this throughout the day. Volunteer-built jumps and ramps add to the thrill for bikers. If you're a hiker sharing the trails with cyclists, be sure to stay alert, as enthusiastic bikers may come speeding down!

The gondola ride at Hovden lift is suitable for everyone, regardless of age. The gondolas are specially designed to accommodate wheelchair users, and it's easy to bring a stroller up the mountain. Several gondolas are also equipped with bike racks.
