Hiking in Oppdal

WHEN MOMENTS MATTER
Time is rarely enough. Impatiently, we make plans for the summer – there is so much we want to fit in. In Oppdal, time doesn’t stand still, but you can fill every moment with unique mountain experiences. These create memories that keep the summer feeling alive long after the season ends.
You certainly don’t visit Oppdal if you’re looking for lazy days on a sunbed. But if you want to spend your time in nature, you’ll quickly discover that Oppdal offers a wide variety of outdoor activities. The welcoming mountains stretching from Dovrefjell in the south to Trollheimen in the north feature a world-class trail network that provides unforgettable experiences – whether you are an adventurer, a family, a leisure seeker or a retiree.
Majestic Dovrefjell
To the south rises the Snøhetta massif. Despite its 2286 metres, several thousand people visit Stortoppen each summer. Want a shorter trip? Visit the Viewpoint Snøhetta for a magical mountain atmosphere. And if you're lucky, you may spot the king of Dovrefjell – the musk ox.
The mountains of the trolls
Trollheimen is a playground of gentle mountains rising up to almost 1800 metres. One of Norway’s most popular hiking routes lies here: Trekanten. Experience grand and varied nature between Jøldalshytta, Trollheimshytta and Gjevilvasshytta. But you don’t have to go far for the best experiences – no matter the hike, endorphins flow freely in this land of joy. A summer bonus is swimming at the sandy beach Rauøra in Gjevilvassdalen – it doesn’t get more exotic than that. Also visit Barnas Naturverden, a universe created for adventurous kids!
Freedom
Trail running is a modern version of the traditional mountain hike. Swap the treadmill, asphalt or gravel roads for soft trails made by nature itself. You’ll find distances and terrain suited to your fitness level. The mountains are easily accessible, and you reach the tree line quickly. The terrain is friendly, with vast, runnable areas. Oppdal’s massifs have few sharp ridges or steep peaks – broad plateaus and spacious summits create truly incredible experiences. Running in the mountains gives a sense of freedom.
