Kongsvold Fjeldstue - mountain lodge
Experience unique accommodation at Kongsvold Fjellstue – a historic mountain hotel where the oldest preserved buildings date back as far as 1720. Kongsvold Fjellstue is situated adjacent to Dovrefjell National Park, at 900 meters above sea level at the top of Drivdalen. Notably, the mountain lodge even has its own train station.
The old coaching inn, Kongsvold Fjellstue, consists of over 20 well-maintained buildings and features interiors and antiques from several centuries of mountain lodge history. Today, Kongsvold operates as a hotel with modern comfort, offering 32 rooms with showers and toilets, a modern conference room, cozy lounges, and a dining room accommodating up to 70 guests. Many find it fascinating that the mountain lodge tradition dates back to the 12th century. Kongsvold has been restored in collaboration with the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage and local craftsmen.
The Pilgrim's Path passes through Kongsvold. This long trail along the Old King’s Road in Oppdal crosses Dovrefjell and runs through Oppdal Municipality. There are also other marked DNT trails in the area, leading to Reinheim and Snøhetta, into the realm of the musk ox, east toward Folldal, and south toward Hjerkinn. North of Kongsvold, you can also hike up Vårstigen and across to Vinstradalen, which heads toward the Ryphusan shelter – a popular stop for pilgrims.
Daily guided musk ox tours are arranged during the summer season. You can sign up at the Kongsvold reception and meet at the parking area the next day. You will often join a larger group also hoping to see the prehistoric animal, along with a guide who knows exactly where to find it.
Kongsvold is ideal for celebrations such as weddings, confirmations, anniversaries, and memorial gatherings. We offer beautiful lounges for coffee, cake buffets, and aperitifs.
