Oppdal Museum

The Oppdal Museum is located in scenic surroundings just a short walk north of Oppdal town center. Walk through the museum's gate, let yourself drift away, and pretend you're living in the 16th century. If you visit the Oppdal Museum on a sunny day, you will feel the history in the beautiful surroundings the museum offers.
Here you'll find various buildings including residential houses, barns, storehouses, millhouses, smithies, hunting lodges, mountain farms, telephone exchange, ski workshop, and a newer building in old dragon style. This gives visitors a unique opportunity to study building traditions used in the rural areas from the 16th century until today.
The museum also contains several special collections and exhibitions of old objects that should be seen. Among them is a handicraft exhibition featuring work done by Oppdal's famous woodcarver Ole Moene. You will also find a ski exhibition, school museum, telecommunications museum, textile exhibition, and nursing home exhibition.
There is a lot of activity throughout the year, and the museum emphasizes being a living museum with open days and several events. They often offer guided tours, handicraft activities, Christmas lunches, poetry evenings, and several other interesting activities. There's usually an opportunity to buy coffee and snacks as well.
