Summer gondola, Oppdal Ski Center

Every year, when spring turns to summer, the lift system at Oppdal Ski Center switches from chairlifts to gondolas in the Hovden lift. Taking the gondola to the top is a popular activity – from here, you can enjoy the view over the entire Oppdal area. On a clear day, you might even spot the distant Snøhetta.

From the top, the options are many. You can visit the top restaurant, "The Hill," which offers the village’s finest view. Here, you can enjoy delicious Italian pizza, baked in a wood-fired oven. In addition, lunch options such as soups, salads, and sandwiches are available. The Hill also offers drinks, and if you're just after a little snack, you can enjoy a good cup of coffee with something sweet on the side.

For the more adventurous, you can venture behind the mountain to explore the nature, the valley, and the trail down from the mountain. Along the way, you may encounter plenty of exciting things, such as grazing sheep and cows, summer-closed ski lifts, rivers, and streams. If you're lucky, you might even spot a herd of reindeer. If you're looking for a real mountain hike, why not walk all the way to Blåøret?

The gondola and the Hovden mountain are also a popular destination for trail biking. Cyclists enjoy taking the lift up and then riding the marked trails down the mountainside. They often do this repeatedly throughout the day. Jumps and ramps have been built by volunteers, which the bikers make use of. If you're a hiker on the bike trails, it's wise to keep an eye out, as happy cyclists zoom by!

The gondola ride in the Hovden lift is suitable for everyone, of all ages. The gondolas are specially designed for wheelchair users, and strollers can easily be brought up to the mountain as well. Several of the gondolas are equipped with bike racks.
