Vettan stairs

A walk in the Vettan stairs is an experience regardless of weather and season. The experiences await you. See the Hurtigruten pass right by you, watch the eagle circle around, witness the sunset in the sea, or feel the wind and forces of nature at the top. The staircase is approximately 1000 meters long with 951 steps.
The Vettan stairs at Bessaker
From the shop at Bessaker and up to the mountain peak Vettan, where Germans were stationed during World War II, a fantastic wooden staircase with almost 1000 steps has now been built. Here, you can enjoy a nice and easy hike to a mountain top, and you have a magnificent view from the first to the last step at the top, 145 meters above sea level. From the top of Vettan, you have a view to Flatanger in the north and to Frøya in the south. The Hurtigruten (coastal express) passes twice a day.
Along the staircase, you can scan QR codes to hear local stories, see miniature houses, chainsaw art, as well as enjoy beautiful nature experiences.
Afterwards, we recommend everyone to enjoy the peace and atmosphere at the terrace overlooking the sea. Many children come here to play and fish for crabs every summer.
