Vognildsbua - Historic shop and museum

7 kilometers west of Oppdal center lies Vognildsbua country store and café. An idyllic, traditional, and old-fashioned complex that transports you back to 19th century Oppdal.

The main house at Vognildsbua is among Norway's oldest country stores still intact, virtually unchanged since its opening in 1860 and meticulously restored over time. The store operated until the mid-1980s, where locals gathered not only to shop but also to exchange news and stories. The range of goods was extensive, covering essentials like flour, sugar, salt, clothing, shoes, fabric, and medicinal items—everything one needed that wasn't self-produced. Today, visitors can still experience this authentic atmosphere at Vognildsbua.

The café is housed in the Pakkhuset (storehouse), becoming a popular meeting place for various occasions. In summer, ice cream is available, and throughout the year, homemade cakes and freshly brewed coffee are served. Other buildings on the site feature exhibitions and a thrift shop offering furniture, tableware, decorations, Christmas ornaments, and children's toys—a treasure trove for those who enjoy exploring.

Previously, Vognildsbua has hosted its own music festival featuring both local talents and nationally renowned artists as headliners. This festival, known for its intimate setting and jovial atmosphere, captivates attendees with laughter and dancing well into the late summer night.
