Wild Reindeer Visitor Centre and Viewpoint SNØHETTA

At the Wild Reindeer Visitor Centre in Hjerkinn, we invite you to experience the mountain landscape of the wild reindeer. Learn about this fascinating ancient animal through our new exhibition and outdoor area near the E6 highway, or hike the trail to the panoramic Viewpoint SNØHETTA.

The attractions are open 24/7 during the summer season, and both the attractions and activities are free of charge. Please note that the road to the viewpoint SNØHETTA parking area is a toll road (pay at youpark.no).

Stop by and get to know an animal that was vital to our ancestors for thousands of years. See a mounted reindeer and a real skeleton—both from animals that roamed the nearby mountains. Discover the many unique adaptations of the reindeer and gain insight into its history and the challenges it faces today.

Outdoors, we feature reconstructed ancient hunting systems that let you imagine how people hunted long before firearms. Wondering how travelers on foot or horseback crossed Dovrefjell in the past? Step into the "sælehus," a replica of the shelters built to provide protection for travelers.

The centre’s viewpoint, SNØHETTA, offers a unique mountain experience! It takes just 20–30 minutes to walk the 1.5 km trail to the viewpoint. Along the way, informative signs share the rich natural and cultural history of Dovrefjell.

Opening Hours 2025:
