Arctic Night Experience

Enjoy one night in the Arctic wilderness to experience northern lights during winter, or midnight sun later in the spring! We’ll spend the first day of the trip snowmobiling from Longyearbyen to exploring local areas making our way to our lodge. In the evening, we’ll treat ourselves to peace and quiet in our cozy Krekling Lodge. From Longyearbyen, the trip follows the peaceful landscape of Adventdalen. This glacial valley is a characteristic of Svalbard providing us with opportunities to learn about tundra ecosystems, geology of the surrounding mountains, and historic coal mining. As we travel through the inner part of the valley, we’ll find many small groups of Svalbard reindeer. We’ll pass by the famous Opera Mountain, which is named for its beautiful amphitheater-shaped valley. Our home for this trip is Krekling Lodge. There, you can experience the remoteness of Svalbard’s wilderness without sacrificing modern comforts. Although this is only a ~35 km from Longyearbyen, it is truly an unforgettable place where you will find a sense of calmness and enjoy the pristine polar environment. The lodge is located just above Krekling Pass and has breathtaking views over four different valleys and along the ridge of Otto Mountain. The mountains in this area - Ottofjellet, Albert Bruntoppen, Arctowskifjellet and Lousitaniafjellet- are all over 900 metres and offer stunning views over Sassenfjord and Temple Mountain. During the evening, we will prepare and share delicious meal together and share in the true Arctic experience of watching out for Northern lights. Northern lights are visible until mid-March, and from mid-April, there is midnight sun! After enjoying our lodge together for the night, we’ll share breakfast and return to Longyearbyen. If we have time, we’ll visit the remains of the abandoned mining settlements Hiorthhamn and Advent City. Breath deeply, enjoy the silence, and feel a sense of solitude.
