Overview

This inclusive break takes you to the stunning and remote Malangen Resort. Situated south of Tromso on the shores of Malangen fjord and set in natural surroundings away from city lights, it offers fantastic aurora watching potential. Malangen’s superb collection of stylish accommodation and great selection of activities make this an ideal choice for a thrilling winter getaway.

Malangen Resort is located 65 km south from the popular Arctic city of Tromso in Northern Norway and now even more accessible using set transfers in conjunction with the direct flight from London Gatwick. This takes away the inconvenience of travelling via Oslo, meaning you can make the most of your time in resort.

The 3 night break includes a Northern Light Watch experience – enjoy a briefing about this natural phenomenon and a guided trip to Camp Nikka where you keep vigil for the aurora in this wilderness location around an open fire. While the aurora can be elusive, this location has an excellent record for sightings.

Also included on this break is a thrilling dog sledding adventure with eager huskies keen to whisk you away through the white landscape; a snowshoe trek into the untouched wilderness of the snowy forest and a private 2 hour session using the panoramic sauna and outdoor hot tub to help you relax after the day’s exertions.

It is also possible to pre-book other optional activities during your time at leisure such as snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and  Sami story-telling. All activities include full instructions and winter clothing.

Itinerary

On arrival to Tromso you will be met and transferred (1 hour 10 minutes) to Malangen Resort. Check-in to your accommodation for three nights and enjoy a light evening meal.

After breakfast, don the winter gear and get ready for a thrilling dog sledding trip. The kennels are located a 10-minute walk from the resort. Following a brief instruction, you will mush your sled in pairs of two – there is a chance to change drivers halfway. Finish the excursion with a light snack and coffee then the afternoon is free to relax and enjoy the wonderful scenery of the fjord and surrounding mountains.
An early dinner in the restaurant is followed by the Northern Lights Watch at 21.30. It begins at the hotel with a briefing on this natural phenomenon and the current conditions. Then you set off to Camp Nikka, just a 10-15 minutes walk away to a secluded area by a frozen lake, with three lavvus to keep you warm and sheltered while keeping watch for the aurora. A snack is served later in the evening and the experienced guides can help you with photographing the lights should they make an appearance.
Meals included: breakfast, light snack, 3-course dinner.

Finishing it in the late afternoon, it is a fast turnaround to transfer back to Tromso airport. Check-in for your flight back to London.
