Trolltunga Winter

Join us for a beautiful winter adventure to Trolltunga. The hike to Trolltunga offers spectacular scenery with views of snow-capped mountains, fjords, deep valleys, waterfalls and glaciers. It is absolutely magical to experience Norwegian nature and Trolltunga when everything is covered in snow and ice. If you can not find your preferred date available, please contact us and we will see what we can arrange.

  • Spring at Trolltunga is a unique experience with few or no other tourists in the mountains, with crystal clear air, and several meters of snow. This will be an adventure you will never forget! The hike to Trolltunga is long, 14 km one way from Skjeggedal (P2) and 10 km one way from Mågelitopp (P3), and the duration of the hike in total is about 10-12 hours. Therefore this hike requires a good physical condition. We recommend some experience with hiking in snow and cold weather as this is a challenging hike in an exposed and cold mountain area. Our guides are very experienced in these winter conditions and will assure your safety during the hike. Just make sure to carefully read our packing list.

You will be welcomed by our guide in Skjeggedal (P2) at 08:00 AM. (read more about getting to Skjeggedal and the surrounding area HERE). If the snow conditions allow us we will be able to drive up to Mågelitopp (P3), which will save us 4km and 400 vertical meters each way! (this is not likely before May).

Along the way we will stop and serve you a delicious lunch with coffee or hot chocolate and some local snacks. Make sure you register special food requirements in your booking (such as vegetarian or gluten intolerance). We will have breaks along the way for snacks, photos and our guides will show you some spectacular hidden gems. During the whole hike we will be surrounded by beautiful nature and arriving at Trolltunga is for sure something special. Here we will have a longer break for photos and just enjoy the view before we start our hike back to civilization.

NB: It’s recommended to use a guide outside the summer season which is defined between the 15th of June and the 15th of September. This is due to uncertainty related to the weather, snow, rivers and less daylight, which again have led to several rescue operations over the years. The weather changes fast at this time of the season.

  • • Local lunch & snacks
    • Snowshoes
    • Hiking poles
    • Spikes
    • Experienced guide carrying safety- and first-aid equipment
    • If possible due to the weather, reserved transport from Skjeggedal (P2) to Mågelitopp (P3) and back down again (normal price 200 NOK). (Note: Not likely before May due to closed road during the snowy season)

See the packing list below of what you need to bring for the hike.

  • • Sunglasses
    • Sunscreen
    • Wind and waterproof mittens
    • Warm hat
    • Wool buff
    • Down jacket
    • Waterproof gaiters
    • Snacks
    • 2 pairs of warm wool socks
    • Water and windproof jacket and pants
    • Waterproof hiking boots (NO sneakers/trainers!)
    • Warm baselayer, preferably wool - two pairs
    • 3 litres of water per person (!)
    • Backpack - minimum 35 litres + straps for snowshoes + rain cover

It is very important due to safety reasons that you carefully read the packing list and bring all the things. The weather changes quickly in the mountains - do not always trust the weather forecast. If you do not bring the correct equipment, or too little water and snacks with you, and the guide sees you as a safety risk, you might have to turn around during the hike. We will happily help you before the hike to figure all these things out. You will be able to rent backpacks and rain and wind gear from us.

The most important thing to remember is to bring enough warm clothes. Our best tip is to use wool as it will keep you warm, even when it's wet.

Read more about getting to our meeting point Skjeggedal and the surrounding area HERE.

NB: Parking at P2 or shuttle to/from Odda is not included in the price.

Note: A minimum of three guests must be registered for us to go through with the tour. We will give you a full refund if we have to cancel due to too few registrants.

One of our top priorities is to leave no trace in the wonderful Norwegian nature. We try to leave the surroundings at least as good as we found them. We invite you to join us in this by taking down everything you bring up into the mountains.

NB: It’s recommended to use a guide outside the summer season which is defined between the 15th of June and the 15th of September. This is due to uncertainty related to weather, snow, rivers, and less daylight, which again have led to several rescue operations over the years. The weather changes fast at this time of the season.

You must have valid travel insurance for adventure tours.
