Arctic Whale Tours

Book

Welcome to the kingdom of whales with Arctic Whale Tours! We are located in the village of Stø on Langøya, from where we arrange sea safaris with sperm whales as the main attraction. Stø is one of most active line-fishing villages in Norway and as a guest with us, you'll get to experience the history and culture related to the place in addition to the magnificent nature around us.

Our safari is a full day tour (7-9 hours) to the sea, which gives you a unique opportunity to experience whales, birds and seals in their natural living environment. The first stop on our safari is at Anda nature reserve and its cliffs, which are a nesting place to thousands of seabirds. Around the island, you will have the possibility to see thousands of puffins as well as gannets and other seabirds. The rocks around the island host a large colony of harbour seals, which can often be seen resting there in large numbers.

After our stop at Anda, we continue towards the underwater canyon of Bleik, in search of the highlight of the whale watching tour - the sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus). On the way offshore, we regularly encounter different whale species inhabiting these waters, such as minke whales, orcas and porpoises. The sperm whale, however, is our main attraction. In the area around Bleik canyon we will be able to see when these gicantic whales rest on the surface and dive into the depths to search for food. In order to find the whales more easily, our boat is equipped with hydrophones

The welfare of the whales is a top priority on our tours. We will always respect their behaviour and never go too close or chase them. We have established our own whale watching guidelines, which you can read more about here: http://arcticwhaletours.com/about-us/responsible-tourism/whale-watching-guidelines

We operate our tours with our catameran Blasius II which can take up to 90 passengers. Blasius II is an excellent whale watching boat providing space on deck around the entire boat to view the whales. There is also a lookout on the roof for the guides to find the whales. On board you will be taken care of by our qualified, professional nature guides, who have first-hand knowledge of the marine wildlife and culture of the area and who will ensure that you'll be treated as a part of our team on the trip.

Whale guarantee: In the unlikely event that we would not be able to see any cetaceans (includes all whale and dolphin species), passengers can join another available whale safari, free of charge.

The price includes: Whale safari with bird and seal safari, experienced guide on board, light meal of local ingredients, coffee, tea and chocolate. We also have a gluten free and vegan option made of wild plants and organic vegetables.
