Gytrifossen waterfall

A wonderful walk in lush western Norwegian nature. Area: Oldedalen valley Type: Hike/walk Classification: Medium Length: 2.0 km, 1 hour Season: May–October

Gytrifossen is one of the many wild waterfalls in Oldedalen. The waterfall is tucked away at the back of the lush Gytridalen valley. The walk starts from a marked starting point at Gryta Camping in Oldedalen. The trail leads partly along a forest road on the right side (north side) of the river. There’s a view of the glacier all the way up to the waterfall. It’s worth taking a detour to the viewpoint Nedreholten, which offers beautiful views across the Oldedalen valley. The walk features western Norway’s lush countryside and is child-friendly (suitable for ages 8 and over). It’s also possible to walk higher up in the valley and onto Rabbfjellet mountain, although we recommend travelling with local guides familiar with the glacier and mountain.

Directions:

Drive from the centre of Olden towards Briksdalen. Once at Gytri, park at Olden Camping Gytri.
