After breakfast you go to the bus stop at Lærdal Town Hall where the Kingsroad bus departs at 08:30 am (the bus tour is included in the price). The Kingsroad bus drives you to Sjurhaugen (arrival approx. 08.48 am). You cross the Lærdal river and take a left onto the section Galdane. The Kingsroad through Galdane is full of myths and stories that have inspired many national hymns and themes. You walk in historical footsteps through a rich cultural and natural landscape. To get the best out of the hike, read about the section Galdane here.
DAY 2:
This day you will experience the famous Vindhellavegen as part of the Vindhella-Sverrestigen round-trip, and the national icon Borgund Stave Church. After breakfast you go to the bus stop at Lærdal Town Hall where the Kingsroad bus departs at 08:30 am. (included in the price).
The bus takes you to Borgund Stave Church (arrival around 08.55 am). Walk the Sverrestigen first. The path starts behind the red Borgund church just next to the stave church. Follow the signs.
History tells that the norse King Sverre in October 1177 took this path to bypass the farmers who were ready to throw stones and logs on his soldiers, the socalled Birkebeinerne. To get the most out of the hike read about Sverrestigen here.
DAY 3:
After breakfast and check-out you will walk around in Old Lærdalsøyri, one of Norways best preserved wooden house towns which miraculously escaped the great fire in January 2014.
The main street Øyragata is the same as the Kingsroad, and one of the oldest shopping streets in Western Norway. For example, the old Lærdal market was held here already in the 16th century. The Kingsroad ends at the old harbor. Here you'll find small shops, like Smak av Sogn/Farmers market, and small cafés. You can join activities as painting courses at Gallery Bryggja or guided old town walks.
