Rondane National Park is a mountain area between the Gudbrandsdalen and Atndalen valleys. The area stretches from Ringebu in the south to Dovre in the north. It was awarded protected status and became the country's first national park in 1962. The area was extended in 2003, and today it covers 963 km².
The national park is home to one of our last wild reindeer populations, and comprises everything from woodland to exposed hillsides and mountain peaks. As many as nine of the Rondane mountain peaks are over 2000 metres above sea level. An extensive network of way-marked trails is available, and the area is ideal for everything from daytrips in gentle terrain to challenging multi-day mountain hikes.
