The town has several sports shops in the centre and some outlets in the ski areas as well. There are many grocery stores with extended opening hours. You will also find delicacies, catering and  bakeries.


Geilo was early in history a well established center for forging tools for work and leisure.

Today's iron industry has roots back to the 1600s. Before that time iron production was driven on a large scale, the first iron was made already around the year 0. Today, knives, axes and tools from Geilo are exported worldwide. The Norwegain well known Brusletto knifes and Skaugum cutlery are produced at Geilo.
