Rauland is located in Vinje municipality, the largest district in the county of Telemark. As 80 percent of the district lies higher than 800 metres above sea level, it is a quintessential mountain region. During spring, summer, and autumn, Rauland offers undisturbed nature, a variety of hiking trails, good fishing, cycling and horse riding, and moose safaris by operators who guarantee you’ll get to see these magnificent animals.
In winter, you have lots of snowy activities to choose from. Ski down the alpine skiing slopes at Rauland Skisenter or enjoy 150 kilometres of cross country skiing in beautiful terrain. Rauland is also one of the few destinations in Norway that offers snowmobiling.
Rauland also offers winter activities such as dog sledding, snowmobiling for kids, snow rafting, and kiting. Getting there and travelling around is just as easy in winter as it is in summer.
Rauland, home to 1,500 inhabitants and is known for rich culture, with its many authors, artists, and musicians. The museums in Vinje, together with Raulandsakademiet, the University of South-Eastern Norway, and Mjonøy Handicraft and Cultural Center, help preserve the cultural heritage of which the region is so proud.

By plane
Rauland is situated about 250 kilometres from Oslo Airport and 190 kilometres from Torp Sandefjord Airport, which also has direct connections to many European cities. You can take an express bus to Rauland from both airports. The journey takes approximately 3 hours from Torp and 4 hours from Oslo Airport.

By road
You can reach Rauland by bus from several destinations. Express buses combined with local services will bring you to Rauland from Oslo Airport Gardermoen, Torp Sandefjord Airport, Larvik, Haugesund, and Bergen.
Want to go by car? Rauland has good road connections from Oslo, Sandefjord, and Larvik in the east, Kristiansand in the south, and Stavanger, Haugesund, and Bergen in the west.
By train
From Oslo, Stavanger and Kristiansand, take the train to Bø, then either the Haukeliekspressen or Telemarksekspressen express bus to Åmot, where there is a local bus service to Rauland.
There are daily train departures to Bø from most major cities.
