Flekkefjord
Welcome to the westernmost city in Southern Norway.
Street art, a quaint and historic Dutch Quarter, rail biking, and idyllic nature await in Flekkefjord.
Midway between Kristiansand in Southern Norway and Stavanger in Fjord Norway, you’ll find the charming coastal town of Flekkefjord. The city historically had strong trade relations with the Netherlands, with many ships sailing to the coast as far back as the 1500s and 1600s.
Many Dutch people also emigrated here in the 1800s, building homes in what came to be known as Hollenderbyen, or the Dutch Quarter in English, which you can stroll through today. Look for treasures in niche shops or enjoy a cup of happiness at a café in its picturesque streets.
Flowers decorate the entrance to many of the traditional wooden houses, but that is not the only splash of colour you’ll see. Some walls are adorned with spectacular murals and street art, adding a funky element of contrast to the historic buildings.
When it’s time to explore the surrounding areas, you can soak up some 'vitamin sea' on the island of Hidra, hike to the potholes at Brufjell, or go rail biking on the Flekkefjordbanen railway.
