The exhibition “Sea Ivories” shows medieval objects made from walrus ivory and whale tooth. It looks at the craftsmanship behind the carving, where routes they travelled, and what consequences the actions had for the animals the raw material came from.

Among the objects in the exhibition are six chess pieces from the Isle of Lewis, on loan from the British Museum, along with a number of treasures from the University Museum's own collections, and other national and international museums.
