Egil Eldøen, born 1959
We are talking about what may well be Norway’s finest soul and pop singer. But he is also a composer and musician. He has been a brilliant vocalist in the legendary band Lava and has also delivered strong work as a solo artist.
His first record release was with the group Another Band in 1979. Two years later, he released the concept album Ringen together with the band Shandy. He then took part in the project Rust as a singer, alongside HP Gundersen, Kåre Sandvik, Arne Størmer, Ole Hamre and Yngve Moe.
In 1983, the legendary Marius Müller chose Egil Eldøen as the vocalist for Lava. This marked the beginning of a long and successful career with the band. The albums Prime Time (1982) and Fire (1984) truly made Eldøen a household name. He composed the song “You” and sang it as a duet with Randy Crawford. This song contributed to Lava winning the Spellemann Award in 1984, and several outstanding duets with Crawford followed in the years to come.
His first solo album, Welcome Into My Heart, was also released in 1984. Eldøen sang a duet with Anita Skorgan on “We’ll Make It.” The album was nominated for a Spellemann Award, and several of his later solo albums received nominations as well.
On his third solo album, Egil Eldøen, he recorded another beautiful duet with Randy Crawford, “The Best of Me.” Eldøen has also taken part in numerous recordings with other artists, both as a producer and as a vocalist.
In 2003, Lava released the album Polarity, once again featuring a duet with Randy Crawford, “Shine a Little Light.” He has also worked with, among others, Trine Rein, Torhild Sivertsen and Tor Endresen.
In 2009, Lava released its first live album, Symphonic Journey, recorded with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK) at Rockefeller. In 2013, Eldøen released the album Hem Til Jul together with Helge Jordal, Elisabeth Moberg and VHO, which was also the title of the stage production performed at Logen Theatre.
A lot has happened, and finally it should be mentioned that in 2022 Eldøen released the single “Dear Friend,” a ballad by Tore Thorsen.
Egil Eldøen, what a guy. Norway’s Michael McDonald!
