Embark on a 3-day snowmobile adventure to a vast destination where only Arctic wildlife live. Check in at your secret escape situated by the mighty, blue Nordenskiöld glacier.
Discovering Nordenskiöld Lodge is hard with the naked eye, even for the initiated few who know its sheltered location. Your expedition cabin is perched at the edge of the glacier, a destination giving way to the traditional explorer's life in Svalbard. Combine spectacular adventures far away from civilization with recreation and a proper digital detox. The silence is solely interrupted by the glacier as it speaks with cracking sounds. Large windows invite the nature to come inside, offering you a magnificent view of the mighty Svalbard mountains and the blue glacier. The expedition cabin holds a modern standard, though without running water or electricity as a part of the experience. Join us on your adventure of a lifetime.
Day 1
9.30am: Pick up at your hotel or guesthouse in Longyearbyen.
We begin our adventure at Basecamp Expedition Centre when all participants are gathered. You will be provided with warm winter clothing and your own snowmobile after the guide has given necessary information and a safety briefing. The drive to Nordenskiöld Lodge is about 120 km, and duration is around six to seven hours. Duration and choice of route depends on weather conditions, stops along the way and the group dynamic. After arrival in the late afternoon, we'll find time to settle you in your room before dinner is served by your hosts. Note that information about food allergies is important to advise us about before the trip, due to the destination’s remote location.
Day 2
Morning coffee and breakfast are served according to the group's pace and wishes for the day's activities. The time and guide is at your disposal, but our skilled guides will come up with recommended tours. By snowmobile we get to places around Nordenskiöld Lodge that cannot be reached on a day trip from Longyearbyen. A unique opportunity to experience places off the beaten track.
We provide a hot lunch and drinks along the way. Back at Nordenskiöld Lodge you might want to heat up in our wooden fired sauna, before enjoying a homemade dinner.
Day 3
After a good night's rest and breakfast, we prepare our snowmobiles and start the journey back to civilization in Longyearbyen. We make a lunch stop on the way and the adventure ends where it started, at Basecamp Explorer's Expedition Centre. The equipment and clothing are returned before the guide drives you back to your hotel or guesthouse around 4 pm.

Driver's license:
Valid driver's license for car or motorcycle required for snowmobiling. This must be presented to the guide before departure. Any snowmobile trip on Svalbard needs at least two snowmobiles without passengers for the trip to be carried out. This is for safety reasons, and if a snowmobile stops, we must have space enough to bring everyone home. We reserve the right to change the number of passengers and drivers in the group if necessary.
Physical requirements:
This trip is not suitable for persons suffering from back pains or pregnant women. This is due to your safety and wellbeing, and Basecamp Explorer can unfortunately not take responsibility for health problems if this advice is neglected.
Language:
Safety is our top priority during our trips. It is necessary for you to be able to communicate in English or a Scandinavian language if you want to join our excursions. The tour language (English or a Scandinavian language) will be chosen based on the group's language skills.
Weather conditions in Svalbard:
In Svalbard, weather conditions can change quickly. We can meet heavy winds, snowstorms, thick fog, crevasses and lack of snow or ice. This means we might need to make changes to the planed route, and this might lead us not arriving to the planned destination. It can also mean that we need to use a different transportation style or accommodation than what was described in the program. We will always do our outmost to give our guests a great experience in the Arctic, but we must be aware of the characteristics of the destination.
More than travel:
As part of Basecamp Explorer Spitsbergen’s efforts to be climate neutral, we add an additional CO2 and environmental investment of NOK 250* per guest. This is donated in its entirety to do good projects contributing to a sustainable future in our destinations.
