Historic site of national value

Visit one of Norway's best-preserved churches from the Middle Ages; Hobøl Church. The stone church from 1195 has a lush interior with beautiful peasant colours, gold and marbling. The interior is baroque with touches of renaissance and rococo style. In the nave, according to old custom, windows only face south and not north. This is because the north was the direction of the evil forces.

In Spydeberg there is a national historical site of national value; Spydeberg vicarage. The events of 1814 crosses the tracks of the priest Jacob Nicolai Wilse at Spydeberg's old rectory. That is why the vicarage is an important arena in Norway's history in the 18th and 19th centuries. A formidable garden has also been made, correctly reproduced according to old drawings at the vicarage. The main building, storehouse and garden were protected in 1991 by the National Archives, and in 2007 the farm was bought by foundation Spydeberg vicarage.

Nes Lensemuseum in Skiptvet is located by the wide and still-flowing part of the Glomma. (Norways longest river). This lens was a sorting lens, and a large and important workplace for the whole district. Up to 400 men worked here during the season! The building mass at the museum consists of dining barracks, carpentry workshop with forge, power station and sawmill. Visitors can stroll out onto a pier, and visit two houses from the original bilge facility. Here you will also find a detailed model of the lens as it looked in the mid-1930s.

We take the trip back to Hobøl and enjoy a good home-cooked meal at Bilitt Gård. The farm was originally the village's meeting point with a shop, freezer, petrol station and milk reception. The shop was empty for over 20 years before the current owners took over in 2011. Today, the shop has been converted into a pleasant guest house with a dining room, bar and seven double rooms.
