Experiences in the middle of Østfold

Welcome to Rakkestad - in the middle of Østfold. Historica Historiske Samlinger south in Rakkestad is worth a stop. Here you will find nostalgic exhibitions in several areas that most of us will nod in recognition of. The exhibitions are from our own recent history, the nineteenth century, and involve, among other things, chainsaws, tools, minerals, stones, clothes, band effects and toys. Historica also has larger environmental exhibitions where environments from schools, pharmacies, mechanics', watchmakers' and shoemakers' workshops are recreated.

Should it be time for a small coffee stop in a pleasant atmosphere, we can recommend Fru Blom. Here it is warm and has a good atmosphere. In the cafe, you will not only find food, but there are also opportunities to take something home with you in the field of interior design and other home decor.

In the center of Rakkestad, there will be a visit to The Norwegian resistance museum. The museum has over hundreds of meters of glass cases containing around 4000 objects from the Second World War. The exhibition is extensive and touches on occupation, acts of war, military organization, agents, national assembly, the civilian side, concentration camps and liberation.

From here the trip goes to Østfold Cathedral itself, Eidsberg Church, which dates from the later half of the 13th century. The church lies down towards Glomma, (Norways longest river) and this location is one of the explanations for why the church is of such significant size. Glomma was an important road, and the church had a central position in the country at the time it was built. Pilgrims passed through the area on their way to Nidaros. The church is dedicated to St. Olav, who is also depicted on a stone sculpture above the entrance to the church. The pulpit dates from 1662, and is carved from oak. The church tower is 42 m high.

The day ends atLa Mòss in Mysen. They serve folk gourmet dishes. Honest and unadulterated food in rustic and pleasant premises. Fresh homemade pasta every day.

Alternatively, the day can end at the Momarken race track and Restaurant Momarken, where they serve good food in the restaurant. If you're lucky, there might be a race this afternoon.
