Fishing in the Oslo Fjord

From 1 October 2025, new rules for recreational fishing in the Oslo Fjord applies:

  1. Only recreational fishing using hand-held gear is permitted in the Oslofjord.
  2. The number of pots that recreational fishers may use is reduced from 20 to 10 per person and per vessel.
  3. The number of pots that recreational fishers may use for lobster fishing is reduced from 10 to 5 per person and per vessel.
  4. Fishing for shrimp with pots is prohibited for recreational fishers.

Note: From 1 January 2026, fishing in the inner Oslofjord will be prohibited for both commercial and recreational fishers. The only exception is crab fishing with a line for children, which will still be permitted. For more information, visit the Directorate of Fisheries’ website (in Norwegian).
