Fishing trips along the Lena-river

Sundvika
Sundvika is a shallow delta at the mouth of the river Lena. You do not need a permit to fish in Sundvika as it is part of lake Mjøsa and the Totenvika nature reserve, nor does it fall under the authority of the fishing association. The water is shallow and rich in nutrients carried by the river, which means the delta has many fish species, making it ideal for a fantastic fishing experience.

Of the many fish species in Sundvika, trout is the least common. Perch is the main catch, as it spawns in the delta and feeds on the large numbers of prey. In the spring, large pikes come here to spawn and they often stay the whole summer. Pikes over 5 kg are not unusual. There used be a tradition of shooting pike with a shotgun, but this is now prohibited.

The selection of fish species reflects the species found in lake Mjøsa, with the exception of deep-water species. Sundvika is easy to access from the purification plant.

Høljedammen
Høljedammen is a pond at the lower section of the river Lena, next to Viken Travselskap's trotting racecourse and the confluence of Lena and the river Hølja. The pond is about 20 metres long with a normal depth of 1.5 metres. The water level has been reduced, hence there is usually a small waterfall where Hølja flows into the Lena river.

This is the first port of call for the Mjøsa trout, and the most likely place to catch it. When water levels are low, the fish congregate, waiting to enter the Hølja river. Fly fishing in the pond is possible if you wear chest waders. Several large trout have been caught with fly here in the last few years.

Grayling is another fish guaranteed to turn up here in the spring. As the pond is so far downriver, there are also many other species. We have caught perch, trout, grayling, roach, pike and ide here. Høljedammen comes under the fishing regulations for the Lena river, so you need a fishing permit.

Skreia
The fishing areas around Skreia are easy to access, and most can be reached by car. The pond Hovendammen in Landheim is the fishing spot that is the furthest downstream. You won't catch grayling further upstream, and the fish tend to congregate here in May. There is also plenty of trout when the water level in the pond is high, as the fish are unable to enter the waterfall if there is a lot of water.

Åsdammen, a bit further up the river, has plenty of big fish. However, this is also a habitat for young Mjøsa trout, so there could be a lot of small fish. Please respect the 30 cm minimum size rule. The pond is great for fly fishing.

In Kværnum you will find the pond Storhølen. The pond is sometimes difficult to access. Fish stocks here are big, but there are few big fish. We estimate that several hundred trout spend the winter in this pond.

The fishing spot that is the furthest upstream is Skådammen, by the main road. Skådammen, which is the intake for Kværnum, is difficult to fish, but if you are skilled you can catch large river trout and Mjøsa trout.

Krabyskogen
Krabyskogen is a big fishing area, measuring almost 10 km of river. There are no special spots that are better than others. You will find fish in the places where it is natural for the fish to congregate.

In parts of Krabyskogen, channelisation has been implemented to manage frequent flooding. This has reduced the river's suitability as a habitat for young fish because many large rocks on the riverbed have been removed. However, there are still some natural ponds with plenty of fish.

This side of the river is home to stocks of large fish. Every year, trout of 1 kilo or more are caught here. Many places are suitable for fly fishing. The area has many types of caddisfly and mayfly, which sometimes hatch in large numbers. It is important to be in the right place at the right time. Please practice moderation, don't catch more fish than you need, and respect the minimum size.

Kloppen
Kloppen is located upstream of Krabyskogen. A common starting point is the bridge opposite Kloppen Trevare, which is easy to find and has parking facilities.
Some stretches of the river have been channelised, but as the river falls steeply the ponds are smaller than further downriver. There are many good fishing spots, and we don't want to recommend a particular place as there are so many to choose from. Many good fly-fishing spots.

There are big stocks of small fish, so please respect minimum sizes.

Lena
As the name suggests, the river runs past Lena, and the surrounding area has many good fishing spots. Håjendammen, which is a very long pond, is a particularly good place, where you can fish with lure, bait and fly. Sometimes there are enormous numbers of non-biting midges hatching in the area. Every year, large trout are caught in and around Håjendammen, although at times the area gets quite crowded with anglers.

There are also many good fishing spots around the sports arena in Lena, in particular the old, listed stone bridge. This spot is far upstream, where the river is narrower. There are a lot of small fish, so please respect minimum sizes.

Kolbu
The river becomes narrower the further upstream you go, and there are many tributaries. There is plenty of trout, although the sizes are smaller than further downstream.

There are a number of good fishing spots near Kolbu purification plant. The river flows right next to the road, so it is easy to reach, also for children.

We also recommend fishing spots further up the river in Røysedalen. These places are remote and can be difficult to access, but the scenery is beautiful.
