Overview

Urban life by Mjøsa

Welcome to a compact town centre stretching from the railway station in the east to Stortorget in the west! Shaped as a fan, it offers spectacular views of Mjøsa between every block. Hamar town centre has a wide range of shops, restaurants, and other services.

CC Stadion, the local shopping centre, is only a two-minute walk east from Torggata.

The beautiful Strandgata has welcoming spaces ideal for a break along its wide pavements. At Stortorget you find the town's cultural centre, which is full of life day and night.

If you are spending a few hours in town, make time for a visit to Koigen – a spectacular recreational area on the banks of Mjøsa. Here you find a large skatepark, outdoor gym equipment, beach volleyball courts, benches, and a sandy beach.

The beach promenade is some of the most beautiful Hamar has to offer, and stretches for 8 km from Espern (south in Hamar) to Jessnes (in Ringsaker) – ideal for walking, pushing prams, running, and cycling. Stunning views of Mjøsa, Norway's largest lake, can be enjoyed along the entire stretch.

The most recent summer addition along the promenade is Mjøsfronten; a meeting point for all age groups. Activities are available on land and on water, but it is also the ideal spot just to hang out. Relax in a hammock, get at bite to eat from the food trucks, test a water sports activity, do some exercise, or enjoy a sauna on Mjøsa.
