There are great views on this walk, and from the summit you can look down on the Nordfjord and Gloppefjord. Haugsvarden stands at an altitude of 862 metres. The path is well-marked, and the walk is suitable for the whole family.
Special equipment is not required for this walk.
To the starting place you come easiest by car. If you come from the south turn off to the right direction Sandane V, and turn right in direction Kleivane. Follow this road, drive straight ahead at the next intersection. This road winds up a bit, and you follow it until it divides. Then you turn right. Continue a short distance, and take next road to the right. The road is quite steep. Here starts the forest road. Follow this until you come to the second road on the left. From the road it takes approx. 15 to 20 minute drive up the parking lot. Toll road NOK. 50,- (Sandane Taxi +47 94 85 55 55)
The path is firm underfoot and the signposting is good, which means that this walk can also be done in the rain.
From the car park, there is a good path northeast to Tystadstøylen farm. After a five minute walk, you arrive at this summer pasture farm, from which you can enjoy a fantastic view of the fjord and mountains on the southern side of the Gloppefjord.
The path continues northeast from Tystadstøylen through a pine and birch wood just before crossing the tree line into mountain terrain. You pass Lomvatnet lake on the way up to Haugsvarden. There are fantastic views throughout the walk, and from the summit you look down on two fjords. You can also see many of the peaks of Sunnmøre and the distinctive Hyeneshesten mountain. Haugsvarden stands at an altitude of 862 metres.
Walk back the same way you came.
The turf hut that belongs to Nordfjord Folk High School is located about 500 metres south/southeast of Tystadstøylen. It is in an idyllic setting and can be used by everyone. The turf hut has a wood-burning stove inside and a fire pit outside.
