A varied cross-country ski trip through a spectacular area of outstanding natural beauty by Rondane National Park.
Make your way around Hovde with the majestic Rondane massif towering in the background.
From the car park/Rondablikk, ski across Årvillingen and follow the signs for Hovde. You will reach a short, but fun, downhill section just after Årvillingen, before the trail turns east towards Hovde. Continue up through the forest in shelter from the winter winds. Be aware that you are crossing several mountain roads – please mind the traffic.
At some crossings, and particularly late in the season, it is advisable to take off your skis and carry them across the road. When you reach Hovde, the trail leads downhill to Frya (the river flowing from lake Furusjøen) and then up to Frylisætra.
You are now close to the national park, in an area with old mountain farms and pastures. The trail then slopes gently down the Frydalen valley. As you reach Frybrua, head west to return to your starting point. Along the way you will see a cabin area. This is known as the "Raufoss camp” as most of the cabin owners are from the Raufoss area.
After this somewhat demanding uphill climb, you will reach Hovdemyrene where you continue past Siltjønnlia and through the forest before reaching Årvillingen and the end of your trip.
