The Melbo Manor can show off the stately Melbo farmhouse where the founder Christian Frederiksen and his family lived. We provide a 12 minute slideshow that captures the atmosphere and gives an overview of the activities that took place at Melbu in the beginning of the 19th Century. In addition, one of our guides can show you the house and recount its history.

“It was the seventeen year old Christian Frederiksen who started what we can call the ‘mini’ industrial revolution in Melbu. During a period of 30 years around the turn of the 19th Century, Melbu was transformed from a being a large farm to becoming one of the largest industrial centres in this part of the country. The population increased from 77 inhabitants in 1891 to around 1000 in 1920. Christian Frederiksen’s philosophy focused on taking advantage of local raw materials and processing them as much as possible himself.”

The house boasts a garden in the English landscape style of the 1890s. Today, it includes a selection of traditional perennials collected locally from Vesterålen. The garden paths wind their way from the main garden and into the idyllic park.
